Releases from French Robertson Unit

French Robertson Unit can be the last prison location before a person enters the community, but “left Robertson” is not one legal status. TDCJ may record parole, mandatory supervision, maximum-expiration discharge, transfer to another unit, placement in an intermediate-sanction facility, hospital movement, or delivery to county custody on a bench warrant. The sending-unit departure proves only that Robertson’s physical custody ended.

Parole and mandatory supervision continue TDCJ authority in the community. The TDCJ Parole Division supervises those releases until discharge, while the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles makes the grant or denial decision. Full discharge is distinct because it completes the applicable sentence or supervision term. If another agency receives the person, confinement may continue even though the Robertson location changes.

Confirm a Robertson Release

1. Open the official TDCJ Offender Search. Use the seven-digit TDCJ number first, SID second, or name and matching identifiers only when necessary.
2. Verify identity, current unit, offenses, sentence information, projected release, maximum sentence, and parole-review fields together.
3. Read the status literally. “Parole eligible” opens review; an approval may still require a program, plan, detainer resolution, or processing.
4. For a near-term event, contact Classification and Records at 936-437-6231 or classify@tdcj.texas.gov. The public search is updated on working days and is at least 24 hours old.
5. For parole status, use BPP’s 844-512-0461 line or TDCJ Review and Release Processing at 512-406-5202. Ask about current decision, conditions, release date, and assigned office.
6. For historical proof, request admission, movement, release or discharge date and type, maximum expiration, and the supporting record from TDCJ.

Robertson Records and Contact

Use the unit number for facility routing and current logistical questions. Release history is a system-wide TDCJ record. About French Robertson Unit

Robertson is a TDCJ Correctional Institutions Division male prison with G1 through G5 custody, security detention, and transient functions. TDCJ locates it ten miles northeast of Abilene in Jones County. It opened in September 1992, has a published capacity of 2,978, and is co-located with John Middleton Unit.

A Real Regional Release Site

TDCJ specifically identifies Robertson as a Regional Release Site and lists CHANGES/Pre-Release and Reentry Planning. Those are concrete TDCJ functions, not generic descriptions. They establish that some state releases are physically processed in Jones County and that named pre-release planning operates at the unit.

They do not promise eligibility, enrollment, a release date, transportation, residence placement, or benefits for an individual. Presence at Robertson does not establish imminent release. The Board decision, sentence calculation, conditions, detainers, and completed transaction still control. Someone leaving on parole or mandatory supervision remains under Parole Division authority even after walking out through the regional site.

TDCJ maps Jones County parole cases to the Abilene District Parole Office, Region V, but the approved residence may place supervision elsewhere. The Abilene office is at 5241 West Stamford Street, Abilene, TX 79603, telephone 325-672-1495. Confirm the assigned office rather than assuming geography.

Four Custody Systems in Jones County

Jones County contains four sharply different detention settings. Jones County Jail handles local pretrial and short-sentence custody. John Middleton Unit is a TDCJ transfer facility. Robertson is a TDCJ prison and regional release site. Bluebonnet Detention Facility operates under ICE oversight.

A search result must be matched to the custodian, not merely the county name. A person at Robertson may have no Jones County criminal case. Likewise, a person bonding from the Sheriff’s jail does not become a TDCJ parolee. ICE removal or transfer is an immigration outcome, not a Robertson discharge. The agency number and record type prevent these systems from being collapsed into one “Jones County inmate” label.

Adjacent Units, Opposite Movements

Robertson and Middleton are co-located, yet they illustrate opposite meanings of physical movement. Middleton is transient and houses the Western Region Offender Transportation Office. Movement away from Middleton commonly means transport within TDCJ. Robertson’s regional release designation means some movement there can be toward community supervision or discharge.

Physical proximity settles nothing. A person may move from Robertson to Middleton or another unit and remain incarcerated. Another may be processed through Robertson for parole. The statewide TDCJ status and actual transaction distinguish the outcomes. Capture both the departure and destination rather than assuming that a Jones County location change is release.

Projected Dates Are Not Appointments

TDCJ’s Projected Release Date is calculated by Classification and Records for projected release from incarceration if parole does not occur sooner. The Maximum Sentence Date supplies a second boundary. Offense and offense date, mandatory-supervision eligibility, good-conduct credits and forfeitures, BPP action, detainers, and new sentences can change the projection.

Texas has no universal 85-percent rule. Government Code §§498.003 through .005 govern good-conduct rules and clarify that good time may affect parole or mandatory-supervision eligibility but does not shorten the judicial sentence. Sections 508.145 and 508.147 through .149 establish varying parole and mandatory-supervision rules. Eligibility is not a promised release.

When fields disagree, preserve the date each source was checked and ask Classification and Records for the movement history. Then compare the BPP vote with Review and Release Processing. That sequence separates approval, scheduled processing, unit departure, supervision placement, and full sentence discharge.
